Outpouring

As each year passes, it seems that Thanksgiving is further and further buried beneath the maddening commercial bullet train speeding toward Christmas.  And personally, I don't really mind.

It's not that I don't appreciate the purpose of the holiday; to stop and reflect on our blessings.  I certainly do.

But it is my daily endeavor to live in the space of complete gratitude.  To daily, hourly, and from moment to moment die to my selfish sense of entitlement.

I am but a child, completely dependent on my Father.  Broken, hopeless...whole only in his love.  As I am completely reliant on his providence and provision, my efforts toward humility {and cultivating it in my children} necessitate a focus on gramercy.  I want every day to be strung together by the thread of indebtedness and thanks for grace and blessing.

May each day bring an outpouring of gratitude.

Oh I wholly agree. Thanksgiving doesn't remind me to be Thankful...I really strive for that moment to moment.
I see Thanksgiving more as a remembrance [for what first created it] and a time to get together with extended family and enjoy a meal together. Something rarely shared once we all move out and marry. It's nice to get together once in a while. Thanksgiving is one occasion we do so. :)
Great reminder!

I love the Thanksgiving holiday coming up. It's my favorite. I love the idea of taking a whole day and devoting it to gratitude. So I'll join with you and try to do it daily. That would be a blessing really!

What a lovely post :). Poetic...and point on. Thanksgiving should be a way of life, not a celebrated one-day event. And, let me encourage you--intention in nurturing this quality in your children DOES make a difference. My kids are older--17. 15 & 12--and all three are grateful and don't have to be reminded to thank others when a kindness is extended (even stuff like a ride home from sports or school).

This doesn't surprise me having spent just a little time with you :). B u t, I do like this no-pressure-on-gift-giving holiday, it's one of the least commercialized on the calendar :).

What a great post... I agree. I love Christmas so much and all it brings tidings and joy of our wonderful Jesus Christ, but we do need to take time and remember Thanksgiving. I am doing a post a day this month of all the things I am thankful for!
